Breaking Glass picks up prison drama 'K-11' starring Goran Visnjic (THR)

Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired all domestic rights to K-11, the directorial debut of veteran script supervisor Jules Stewart.

The drama stars Goran Visnjic as a powerful record producer who wakes from a drug-induced blackout to find himself locked up in K-11, the section of the Los Angeles County Men’s Central jail for gay and transgender inmates.

The film also stars Kate del Castillo, Portia Doubleday, Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister, D. B. Sweeney, Jason Mewes, Tara Buck and Stewart’s son Cameron Stewart in his feature film debut.

The Philadelphia-based distributor plans to release the film theatrically in either late 2012 or early 2013.

The deal was concluded by Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Libertine Films’ Tom Wright.  “K-11 is very unique to say the least and surely will raise a few eyebrows. The acting is dead on, the story is gripping, and we are gunning for multiple award nominations,” Wolff said.

Stewart, who also happens to be Kristen Stewart’s mother, has recently signed on to direct her next film for Libertine Films, The Locked House, a supernatural thriller about a 15th-century Chinese temple that is unearthed and moved to the States by a billionaire – upsetting the ancient spirits inside.

Jules Stewart signs on to direct 'The Locked House'

Jules Stewart, the mother of actress Kristen Stewart, has signed on to direct “The Locked House,”  Libertine Films announced Thursday.

Written by Serena Tarica and Matthew Burke, “The Locked House” centers around a 15th-century Chinese temple that is unearthed and moved to the U.S. by a billionaire, a process which upsets the ancient spirits inside.

Libertine Films President Tom Wright will produce the supernatural thriller. "We are all very excited about the potential of ‘Locked House’ and feel it’s the perfect follow-up to Stewart’s directorial debut ‘K-11,’” said Wright.

Libertine Films is also producing three other movies: a Big Band-era love story called “Swingfully Yours," a thriller about the political cover-up of a space mission's discoveries called “Mars On Gossamer Wings” and the romantic comedy “Tomfoolery.”

Intandem to rep Stewart's 'K-11' (Variety)

Prison drama set to shoot in L.A. this summer



London-based sales and financing house Intandem Films has pacted with L.A. shingle Libertine Films to handle international sales on edgy drama "K-11."


Directed and written by first-time feature helmer Jules Stewart, the pic is a dark and complex character ensemble set in a special unit of L.A. County's Men's Central Jail dedicated to vulnerable prisoners.


Jules Stewart is the mother of thesp Kristen Stewart, and although press reports have linked the actress with the project, Intandem would not comment, but said casting was now on fast-track.


The indie pic is fully financed and skedded to shoot on location in L.A. this July, and is likely to preem at Berlin next year.


Libertine prexy Tom Wright will produce.


Libertine retains all North American rights for the film, with Intandem's CEO Gary Smith serving as consultant on the negotiations.


Smith said: "Libertine Films has a diverse slate of films and we look forward to developing a long and successful collaboration with them."


Jules Stewart, who is repped by ICM's Joanne Wiles, formed Libertine with Wright after working for many years as a script supervisor.

Intandem Films is pleased to announce its association with Los Angeles based Libertine Films and first time director Jules Stewart. Intandem will be handling all the international sales for the film K-11.  K-11 is an edgy drama set in LA County's Men's Central Jail, the film is a dark and complex character ensemble, with casting currently on a fast track.

The indie picture is fully financed and scheduled to shoot on location in Los Angeles this July to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival 2012. Libertine President Tom Wright will produce.
