Kate del Castillo talks about K-11 with CelebrityBuzz

Before, she played the role of a powerful drug dealer and now she will be a transsexual in prison.

“A couple of my films will be released next year… One is called K-11. The plot takes place in a prison where gays, bisexuals and transsexuals are isolated. This film, in which I portray a transsexual, is a bit strong,” the Mexican actress says in an interview about her new work in English in Hollywood.

Del Castillo, 39, is known for her role as the drug dealer Teresa Mendoza in the series La Reina del Sur (The Queen of the South), which aired on the Hispanic TV network Telemundo, which is based on a novel by Spanish writer Arturo Pérez Reverte.

“La Reina del Sur… was like a watershed in my career, with a character that only comes once in a lifetime,” says Del Castillo about Telemundo’s series.

In K-11, which still has no exact release date in 2012, the Mexican actress shares the starring role with Yugoslav* actor Goran Visnjic. Both are under the direction of American filmmaker Jules Mann-Stewart.

Del Castillo was in Houston for two days last week to promote the champagne brand Moët & Chandon and she paid a couple of visits to liquor stores with some special guests.

According to Del Castillo, portraying a transsexual named Mousey in this film, has been “complicated” compared to other characters she has played in her career.

“You have to do a lot of research… But I had the honor of meeting the acting coach Felicity Huffman used in her film (Transamerica, where Huffman plays a transsexual) and that helped me to work with her. It’s another trip, you won’t recognize me!” says Del Castillo.

The other film in which Del Castillo will star next year is The Miracle of Spanish Harlem, a folk tale directed by Derek Partridge.

“That film has a totally different style than K-11’s… it’s a white film,” concludes the actress.

Thank you gogoranvisnjicatbleuprofond for the head's up. :)

* Side note: Goran is actually from what is now, Croatia.
