Jovanny Venegas mentions K-11 in a new interview (NALIP)

Actor and NALIP member Jovanny Venegas (LPA 2010) will be on the big screen in three different films in 2012: Yo Soy Tu Nina, a modern bilingual coming of age 'Novela' or soap opera; K-11, starring Mexican soap actress Kate del Castillo; and 5th Street, a film that underscores the complicated moral issues involved with street justice. Jovanny will also be appearing in a nation wide commercial featuring R&B singer Alicia Keys and husband, rapper Swizz Beatz.

K-11 was an actual unit of the Los Angeles County jail where gay and transgender inmates are separated from the mainline population. In the film, K-11 is ruled by a transsexual named Mousey, played by Mexican Soap Opera Queen Kate Del Castillo. The film is directed by Jules Stewart who is the mother of Twilight Star Kristen Stewart. Jovanny will be portraying a gay Asian inmate trying to survive the Kafkaesque nightmare. The film is scheduled to premier this year at the Berlin International Film Festival.**

After many years of working as an entertainment news reporter and host for various networks Jovanny launched RedAlertLive which is the premier urban entertainment variety news website. Jovanny was inspired by NALIP's mission to portray Latinos in a positive manner in media. In addition Jovanny also founded the "Look At Me Now!" foundation. A program who's main focus is at-risk students.

** K-11 hasn't premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, but is there (as previously posted) for the Berlin European Film Market (EFM).
